Occupying a suite in a hotel, Scientists for Love tested a new form of literary reading.
In an experiment that investigated sharing literature as a source of human connection, in the solitude of a hotel room, participants experienced private readings from Blue Met poets over the phone.
Given how a public reading can serve to connect authors and their audiences, in Sweet Nothings: Readings for One, Scientists for Love asked how altering the ‘form’ of the literary reading can impact the type of connection experienced. What changes when a reading is private? When the audience and reader are present but unseen by each other? When the author tailors his or her reading to an individual? When the audience offers something personal to the experience?
