MARCH 7, 2015 Have you ever been drawn to the scent of a stranger’s ‘musk’? Does the sound of their voice drive you mad with desire? Why do some touches feel ‘electric’? Do the senses determine compatibility? Join us March 7th to find out! *Speed-dating for the Senses (and the sensitive)* is an evening of experiments investigating what role the five senses play in determining attraction and compatibility between mates. This study applies groundbreaking methodologies developed by Scientists for Love’s head scientists, Leigh Kotsilidis and Amy Chartrand. Our hypothesis: when examined in isolation, the five senses make harmonized choices that reliably reflect potential compatibility. In blind experiments, the senses are asked to ‘choose’ potential mates. The results of each experiment are recorded. Sensory data is charted by our head scientists and revealed at the event. Sense Experiments: HEARING SMELL TOUCH SIGHT TASTE TO PARTICIPATE write to us at scientistsforlove [at] gmail.com. * The target age range for this experiment is 25 – 40. However, we also welcome participants outside this age range who are interested in connecting with people within this age range. * This event is logistically designed for participants seeking heterosexual connections. That said, this event and Scientists for Love maintain an open mind and an open spirit. * $30 per person (includes a drink). Financial aid is available. Please share this event with any friends you love! https://www.facebook.com/events/715815498531013/ SCIENTISTS FOR LOVE: Scientists for Love’s mission is to host community events with a light-hearted approach to making new connections through scientific inquiry. The focus at all Scientists for Love experiments is on creating an atmosphere that is open, generous, accepting, encouraging, and fun. *************************************************** Here’s a RUNDOWN of the experiments we’ll do together to see whether your senses are in line with your instincts of attraction. Please note that Scientists for Love’s methodology is gentle; no putting you on the spot, no rejection, no embarrassing requests. Questions? Email us! Scoring: for all experiments, participants vote ‘yes’ or ‘abstain.’ ‘Yes’ results are collected for all 5 experiments and revealed as a score out of five. Everyone finds results worth investigating! HEARING: Blindfolded, participants recite the alphabet to each other; each is listening for a voice that thrills. TOUCH: Blindfolded, participants hold hands (keeping it below the wrists!). Votes are cast for ‘the right touch.’ SMELL: Participants bring a cotton t-shirt they’ve spent some time wearing. Votes are cast for irresistible scent profiles in a blind smell test. SIGHT: This experiment happens immediately after the groups see each other for the first time. Without speaking, participants look into each others’ eyes for 15 seconds. Do winks get a bonus point? TASTE: Participants bring a sample of their favourite snack food. All snacks laid out, participants vote for foods that would bring them comfort in a moment of craving. And after all that science – it’s party time with $3 drinks (first one’s on us)!!! |
